Former Everton striker and controversial pundit, Andy Gray, has claimed that Evertonians will want to see their side lose to Manchester City on Saturday in order to prevent Liverpool from winning the Premier League.
Liverpool lost 2-0 to Chelsea on Sunday
meaning the title race is now firmly in Man City’s hands. If the Mancunians win all of their remaining three matches, they will win the title, meaning that if Liverpool win their two games, it will come down to goal difference and City would lift the trophy should the Reds not provide two incredible scores.
The Kop’s faith is now put on their neighbours to save them in the title race as they hope that City slip up and let them in again, but Gray feels they will not be so willing to help the cause.
“Peter Reid and I were talking about it last night and we think maybe Evertonians for once in their life may not be too upset if they get beat this week,” said Gray on theAlan Brazil Breakfast Show
“The players will try and do their job the best they can but I’ve got a funny feeling many thousand Evertonians, for one week only, will not mind if they lose the game.
“If they [Manchester City] win at Goodison, they will win the title.
“I don’t think they will drop a point in their two remaining games against West Ham and Villa. I think the title rests purely on what happens at Goodison.”
