Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo has broken a goals record held by Lionel Messi of Barcelona.

The Portugal international scored twice
against Osasuna on Saturday in their 4-0
victory at the Bernabeu in La Liga.
Both of the 29-year-old’s strikes were brilliant
efforts from distance, taking his tally of goals
scored from outside the box this season in all
competitions to 29.
This means that Ronaldo has broken Messi’s
record of 28 goals scored from outside the box
created in the 2009-10 campaign.
The record takes into account the top five
European leagues – the Premier League, La
Liga, Serie A , Bundesliga and Ligue 1 .
Ronaldo has now scored 30 times in 28
appearances in the league in 2013-14 and 14
in nine Champions League fixtures.
Madrid are currently second in La Liga with 82
points from 34 matches, three points behind
leaders Atletico Madrid.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side have also reached the
Champions League semi-finals and won the
first leg 1-0 against Bayern Munich at home
this week.
The second leg of the tie will take place at the
Allianz Arena in Munich next week.
