Midfielder Eden Hazard has been voted Chelsea’s Player of the Year. He was also their top scorer, with 14 Premier League goals this season. He additionally won the Professional Footballer’s Association Young Player of the Year award, and was runner up for Player of the Year behind Liverpool’s Luis Suarez.
The 23 year old Belgian is only in his second season at Chelsea, and has had a great year. His 14 goals were joined by 7 assists this season. The Daily Mail reports that Hazard praised his fellow nominees, but admitted that he would enjoy having an individual trophy as well. Mourinho had recently been critical of Hazard, but all appeared well at the awards ceremony.
Chelsea handed out a couple of additional awards, including the Special Recognition award, which went to Paulo Ferreira. Ferreira, who spent nine years with Chelsea, was very emotional about receiving his award. Azpilicueta, who overtook Ashley Cole this year to become Chelsea’s first choice left back, received the Players’ Player of the Year award. Finally, Young Player of the Year went to Lewis Baker, who also got Goal of the Season for a goal
