An all-star line up of fundraising exhibition matches for a Rally Against Cancer charity event will take place in Birmingham next month in honour of British tennis star Elena Baltacha.
Formerly the country’s top player for nearly three years, Baltacha retired last year having been diagnosed with a rare liver condition when she was 19. Her family confirmed overnight that the sporting star, aged just 30, had died of liver cancer.
Her childhood friend Andy Murray has committed to play in the ‘Rally for Bally’ event along with the likes of Martina Navratilova and Tim Henman in mixed doubles matches at Queen’s Club in Birmingham on June 15.
All money raised will go to the Elena Baltacha Academy of Tennis and the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.
Her agent and friend Eleanor Preston said the fundraiser next month will be an opportunity to celebrate everything the tennis star achieved.
