And with Liverpool losing at home to Newcastle at the time, the relief was overpowering as City fans knew they were well on course for their second Premier League title.
While Liverpool turned it around at Anfield, City were coasting to glory as Vincent Kompany smashed home from close range to make it a cake walk.
Liverpool fans were praying for a miracle at the Etihad and a favour from old-boy Andy Carroll but in truth West Ham never threatened to spoil the party.
While the drama of 2012 will live long in the memory, City fans relish this victory for very different reasons.The collapse of Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool certainly helped, but this time around when it really mattered the Blues got the job done early and conclusively.
