PAUL SCHOLES believes Manchester United’s 2-1 defeat to Swansea proves Louis van Gaal needs new signings.
Gylfi Sigurdsson’s second-half strike earned a shock win for the Swans at Old Trafford.
And after an unconvincing performance from United, the pressure mounts on Van Gaal to land new signings before the transfer window slams shut on September 1.
United have been linked with the likes of Marcos Rojo, Arturo Vidal, Angel Di Maria, Daley Blind and Mats Hummels and club legend Scholes believes new faces are a necessity.
“The quality end to end was lacking,” Scholes told BT Sport.
“Van Gaal knows now that he needs players but I think he probably knew that beforehand and he knows it more than ever now.
“We definitely needed players from the start, whether he being at the World Cup was a factor doesn’t matter.
“In the midfield area the quality wasn’t there.”
