Most of the drama on The X Factor over the weekend centred on the judges rather than the finalists, and it began on Saturday night when show boss Simon Cowell jokingly called Cheryl Fernandez-Versini Kermit because of the green dress she was wearing.
However, there was then tension between Mel B and Simon after Mel told his Overs singer Fleur East that she had “cheated” by having backing vocalists who – according to the former Spice Girl – disguised Fleur’s own vocal.
Mel said, “On the chorus, I didn’t hear your voice pop against the backing track, so I found that a little bit like cheating.”
A livid Simon replied, “That is not cheating. That’s unfair.”
As Mel tried to defend and clarify her remarks, Simon added, “Mel, you’re making the audience think this girl is cheating, and that’s really unfair.”
According to The Sun today, after the judges’ appearance on Xtra Factor was over, they all went back to their dressing rooms, and apparently, Simon “completely snubbed” Mel and insiders claimed that he was “incandescent with rage” over what she’d said.
A show source told the paper, “Simon was furious with Mel over what she said.
“Usually, after Xtra Factor, the judges will have a bit of a debrief and a chat, but Simon was so angry, he stormed off to his dressing room.”
