Anne Hathaway can’t talk about her experiences with tequila because she can’t remember any of them.
The Oscar-winning actress stars as Jules in The Intern, which follows Robert De Niro’s character Ben as he starts working for a company staffed with much younger people. In one scene, the two stars are seen throwing back shots of tequila, something Anne has joked doesn’t always go well when she’s tried it in real life.
“So many, but I can’t tell you what they are because I don’t remember any of them,” she laughed to People, when asked about her favourite memories of the tipple.
“But tequila is my beverage of choice, and I drink it far more responsibly than I did when I was in my twenties.”
Jules has to fight against discrimination in the flick, something the 32-year-old star is pleased not to have too much experience of in her career. She understands that isn’t the case for many women though, and she has started to realise that there aren’t enough of the sort of roles she’d really like to win.
“When you just look at the landscape, when you hear the statistic that only 30 per cent of speaking roles in all films are women, you just go, ‘OK, well, there’s so much more room for improvement there,'” she said. “So I think things are probably better than they ever have been, but there’s still many miles to go before we can call ourselves equal.”
One part Anne does have her eye on is famous nanny Mary Poppins. Disney is working on a new version of the 1964 film and there are rumours Anne could be involved, although she hasn’t been asked about appearing. She would love to though – although the star fears she’ll lose out in favour of her The Devil Wears Prada co-star Emily Blunt.
