Two children of the same parent were yesterday confirmed dead in a fire that gutted a filling station in Osogbo, Osun State capital.
According to an eyewitness, wife of the owner of the petrol station and her three children were inside the building when the fire started at about noon, killing two of the children.
Sympathisers who thronged the scene of the inferno to help put the fire under control before the arrival of the fire service, could not hold back tears at the sight of the damage caused by the inferno.
One of the sympathisers, Mr Ojo Williams, said the situation wouldn’t have been so bad had men of the state fire service arrived the scene early.
Director, Osun State Fire Service, Mr Michael Ogundipe, who confirmed the incident while speaking with journalists, blamed the extent of the destruction caused by the fire on the construction of the building which had only one escape route.
The two survivors in the inferno, the mother and a child, have been taken to hospital for treatment, while the charred bodies of the dead children were evacuated to a mortuary by men of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC.
